Mark the spacing for the gun butts. After all the pieces are cut (see materials list), mark the spacing for the gun butts on one of the 1x4-inch pieces of pine. The space for each gun butt is two inches wide, and each space is separated by a 2x4 block of wood five inches long. This spacing allows enough room for even the largest gun butts while providing enough distance to prevent adjacent guns from touching. The club made this gun rack 42 1/2 inches wide. The number of spaces for guns establishes the overall width. Start and end the spacing layout with 2x4 blocks.
